Drawing inspiration from the explosive delivery of socially conscious rap/punk groups of the 90s such as Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down and Public Enemy, Efficient Public Transport's latest single Body Count is inspired by L Logic's time as an online journalist during the early 2010s. His first hand account of the skewed narratives in global affairs and the growing influence of Big Tech led him to pen the main rap verses and choruses of the song. For around 4 years, the song had been incomplete due to the the lack of a defining melody during the bridge.

However, in 2016, while working for the owners of entertainment nightspots VLV and the now defunct Ku De Ta, L Logic realised that there was a hypnotic ring to the latter's name and decided to pen the pre-chorus using a Gregorian/Phrygian chant of the words "powerless" and "coup d'etat". The foundations of the song starts off with rapid guitar tapping and bone chugging guitar rifts, which are interspersed with melodic rhythms to lull the listener into a sanctuary.

The release of the song in the year 2022 would seem apt, especially in the aftermath of global events like Covid-19, the China-US trade war and the Russo-Ukrainian war. The song hopes that ordinary people would see through the motives of the content and images we consume, and how they have insidiously led us to become unquestioning and docile.
